It is of 3 types :
1. Ksheeradhara (Dhara with medicated milk)
2. Takradhara (Dhara with medicated butter milk)
3. Tailadhara (Dhara with medicated oil)
Sirodhara is the process in which medicated oil ,milk ,buttermilk is poured in a continuous stream on the forehead in a specific manner. The patient is made to lie down in the wooden basin (Taila-Droni), after anointing his head and body with suitable medicated oils .His head should rest in a slightly elevated position, preferably on a pillow.
Two attendants are needed for this treatment. One attendant controls the movement of dharapatra (vessel containing the medicine) and the flow of oil. The other one collects the oil that falls from patients head. The vessel is refilled with this oil and the procedure will be continued for 30-40 minutes.
