SPORTS MEDICINE CLASS BY CAREER GUIDANCE AND PLACEMENT CELL
The Student Support, Career Guidance and Placement Cell of Ahalia Ayurveda Medical College & Hospital, Palakkad, organised a session on Sports Medicine on 18 August 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, at Pranavam Auditorium, AAMCH, Palakkad. The programme was organised with the objective of introducing students to the emerging field of Sports Medicine and creating awareness about the role of Ayurveda in sports health, injury prevention, performance enhancement and recovery.
The session was handled by Dr Ameer Shad C K, Sports Ayurveda Medical Officer, GAH Thenkara, and Dr Athira Soman, Sports Ayurveda Medical Officer, DAH Palakkad. The programme commenced with a welcome speech by Dr. Jyothi Sajayan, HOD, Department of Agada Tantra and Chairperson, Student Support, Career Guidance and Placement Cell. She welcomed the resource persons, faculty members and students and highlighted the importance of exposing students to emerging areas and career opportunities in Ayurveda.
The speakers provided an informative and engaging session on the relevance of Sports Medicine and the scope of Ayurveda in sports healthcare. The discussion covered aspects of injury prevention, physical fitness, athletic performance, recovery and rehabilitation, along with the complementary role of Ayurvedic principles in maintaining the health and performance of athletes. The session also gave students an insight into the professional and career opportunities available in the field of Sports Medicine.
A particularly useful component of the programme was the hands-on training session, during which the resource persons demonstrated bandaging techniques and basic practical approaches to sports-related injuries. Students were able to observe the techniques closely and understand their practical application. The interactive nature of the session and the practical demonstrations made the learning experience more effective and relevant to clinical practice.
Students of the 2022 batch, 2024 batch and House Surgeons attended the programme and actively participated in the session. The interaction with practising Sports Ayurveda Medical Officers provided valuable practical exposure and helped students appreciate the possibilities of integrating Ayurveda with modern sports healthcare.
Overall, the programme was informative, interactive and practically oriented. The resource persons delivered the session effectively, and the hands-on training was particularly beneficial to the participants. The programme was successfully conducted and was found to be highly useful and satisfactory by the participating students.
