Activity Summary: Dept of Swasthavritta, Ahalia Ayurveda Medical College, Palakkad organised a Millets Recipe Week in connection with National Ayurveda Day to create awareness about the health benefits of millets, millet recipes and its preparation. Third year BAMS students (2019 batch) of Ahalia Ayurveda Medical College participated in the program under the guidance of Dr Deepak K S, Professor and HOD and Dr Preethimol T P, Asst Professor, Dept of Swasthavritta, Ahalia Ayurveda Medical College. Little Millet (Botanical name: Panicum sumatrense) is a nutritional powerhouse because of the presence of protein, fiber, B vitamins, Iron, Zinc etc. It maintains blood sugar lever due to its low glycemic index and improves heart health being a rich source of Magnesium. Little millet is cooked in coconut milk and jaggery to prepare Payasam which is nutritious as well as delicious. Prepared recipe was distributed among the patients, bystanders, students and staff of the College. Pamphlets explaining the health benefits of Little millet in Malayalam and Tamil were also distributed among the patients.
