Breast feeding weeek celebrations 2026
World Breastfeeding Week is observed globally every year from 1st to 7th August to create awareness about the importance of breastfeeding and to support lactating mothers. As part of the 2026 celebrations, the Department of Kaumarabhritya, Ahalia Ayurveda Medical College & Hospital, Palakkad organized a series of awareness and educational programs with the theme “Breastfeeding for a sustainable start in life: Strengthen what works”.
EVENTS PLANNED AND CONDUCTED:
REEL MAKING COMPETITION FOR STUDENTS & INTERNS OF AAMC
Date: 1st to 7th August 2026
Objective: To create engaging digital content promoting breastfeeding awareness among the younger generation.
Participation: 2 groups participated.
Result: 1 entry satisfying the judging criteria was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1000/- & the winner is Ms Alsha Keerthi, Ms Jothika Aji, Ms Nayanasree (2024 batch)
E-POSTER COMPETITION FOR STUDENTS & INTERNS OF AAMC
Date: 1st to 7th August 2026
Objective: To spread awareness through creative digital posters on benefits of breastfeeding and Ayurvedic support for lactation.
Participation: 9 students participated.
Result: 1 entry satisfying the judging criteria was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1000/- & the winner is Ms Anjana V (2025 batch)
AWARENESS CLASS FOR ANGANWADI TEACHERS & ASHA WORKERS
Date & Time: 3rd August 2026, 10.30 am to 1.00 pm
Venue: Block Community Hall, Nattukal

Highlights: The session covered importance of exclusive breastfeeding, common lactation issues, and Ayurvedic dietary management. An interactive session clearing doubts, appreciating the efforts of ASHA & Anganawadi workers were executed at the event.
Student Support: Interns – Dr. Sniya, Dr. Rahmath and Dr. Aswathi actively assisted in pamphlet distribution and smooth conduct of the program.
GALACTAGOGUE RECIPE PAMPHLET DISTRIBUTION
Dates: 3rd August 2026 & 7th August 2026
Venue: Amongst Ahalia institutions and outside Ahalia campus
Languages: Malayalam & Tamil
Objective: Distribution of simple, cost-effective, locally available galactagogue recipes to support lactation among mothers.

UTV HEALTH TALK – “PUNYAM KARKKATAKAM – AROGYAVEDAM”
Speaker: Dr. Ganga N, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Kaumarabhritya
Topic: A to Z – Everything to be known on Breastfeeding
Objective: To reach the general public through mass media and provide comprehensive Ayurvedic insights on breastfeeding.
The World Breastfeeding Week 2026 celebrations organized by the Department of Kaumarabhritya were successfully conducted with active participation from students, interns, faculties, ASHA workers, and Anganwadi teachers. The programs effectively highlighted the role of Ayurveda in promoting and supporting breastfeeding, and helped in community outreach through both campus and public programs.
We extend sincere gratitude to ICDS, Chittur for the collaboration, Principal and to all faculties, students and interns for their dedicated efforts in making the event a success.
