World Snake Day

The Department of Agadatantra observed World Snake Day on 16 July 2026 by releasing an informative e-poster to create awareness about the ecological importance of snakes and the need for their conservation.

World Snake Day is observed annually to promote awareness about snakes, dispel myths and misconceptions, and encourage conservation of these often misunderstood reptiles. Snakes are an integral part of the ecosystem, playing a vital role in maintaining ecological balance by controlling rodent populations, protecting agricultural crops, and serving as both predators and prey in the food chain. Their conservation is essential for preserving biodiversity and sustaining healthy ecosystems.

The e-poster highlighted the significance of snake conservation, emphasizing that indiscriminate killing of snakes due to fear and misinformation poses a serious threat to their survival. It also encouraged the public to respect wildlife, avoid harming snakes, and seek assistance from authorized wildlife rescue personnel whenever snakes are encountered. The poster further stressed that conserving snake habitats and promoting public awareness are key steps toward protecting biodiversity and fostering harmonious coexistence between humans and wildlife.
