SNAKE RESCUE AND REHABILITATION CENTRE VISIT – 2023 BATCH

As part of the academic curriculum under the Department of Agadatantra, an educational visit was organized for the Second Professional BAMS students (2023 Batch) to the Snake Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre, Malampuzha on 06/06/26. During the educational session, students acquired practical knowledge in differentiating venomous and non-venomous snakes based on various morphological and behavioural characteristics. They were trained to identify important distinguishing features such as head shape, scale arrangement, pupil characteristics, body markings, and tail morphology. Special emphasis was given to the identification of India’s “Big Four” medically important venomous snakes-Indian Cobra (Naja naja), Common Krait (Bungarus caeruleus), Russell’s Viper (Daboia russelii), and Saw-scaled Viper (Echis carinatus) The session helped students understand the ecological importance of these species and the need for accurate identification to prevent unnecessary fear, harm to wildlife, and inappropriate management of snakebite cases.38 students from 2023 batch along with Dr. Jyothi Sajayan (Associate Professor & HOD, Dept of Agadatantra) and Dr. Sreekutty PV (Assistant Professor, Dept of Agadatantra) attended the visit.
