Debate on – Social media is contributing to the rising burden of lifestyle diseases
As Part of the 11th Ayurveda Day Celebration, see Department of Roga Nidana organized a debate as part of the 11th Ayurveda Day celebration on the topic “Social Media is Contributing to the Rising Burden of Lifestyle Diseases.”
The programme was conducted from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Lecture Hall 2. Students from the 2024 and 2025 batches actively participated in the debate.
The topic provided an opportunity for the students to critically examine the growing influence of social media on lifestyle and health. The participants discussed various aspects, including prolonged screen time, sedentary behaviour, disturbed sleep patterns, unhealthy dietary influences, reduced physical activity, and the psychological impact associated with excessive social media use. The students also highlighted the potential positive role of social media in spreading health awareness, promoting healthy lifestyle practices, and facilitating access to reliable health information.
The debate encouraged students to analyse the relationship between changing lifestyle patterns and the increasing burden of lifestyle-related diseases from both preventive and public-health perspectives. The active participation of students from both batches contributed to an engaging and thought-provoking academic discussion.
The programme successfully provided a platform for students to develop critical thinking, communication skills, awareness of lifestyle-related health issues, and the ability to present evidence-based arguments.
