An academic session on “Para Surgical and Minor Procedures in OT – Nursing Safety Controls and NABH Compliance Standards” was conducted on 24 September 2026 at the Conference Hall of Ahalia Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital.
The session focused on the essential safety measures to be followed by nursing personnel during para-surgical and minor operative procedures. The discussion highlighted the importance of maintaining aseptic techniques, patient safety, proper preparation of the operating area, handling and maintenance of surgical instruments, infection-control practices, safe disposal of biomedical waste, and adherence to standard operating procedures.
Special emphasis was given to NABH compliance standards relevant to nursing and operating-theatre practices. The session also discussed the role of nurses in ensuring safe patient identification, surgical-site safety, documentation, communication among the healthcare team, and maintaining appropriate safety protocols throughout the procedure.
The session was attended by Smt. Suja, Nursing Superintendent; Dr. Preethi Jose, Medical Superintendent; Mr. Shibu Rajendran, Administrator; and Dr. Ayana, Deputy Medical Superintendent, along with members of the nursing and healthcare team.
The interactive academic session provided valuable insights into strengthening patient safety, nursing practices, infection prevention, and quality standards in the operating theatre. It also helped reinforce the importance of coordinated teamwork and adherence to NABH-oriented safety protocols in ensuring quality healthcare delivery.
The session concluded with an appreciation of the participants and a commitment to incorporating the discussed safety and quality practices into routine clinical activities.
